Skulls and Taxidermy, Oh My! {Happy Halloween}

While visiting Sedona, Arizona a couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure (or perhaps nerve) to visit one of the only real trading posts left in the area – Clear Creek Trading Company. Go through a few harmless rooms filled with turquoise jewelry, polished rocks and postcard stands, and you enter… the room of death (dum dum DUM). Dramatic sound effects aside, this room was seriously creepy. Turtle hands, porcupine quills, animal pelts, blunt weapons, various skulls and decorative taxidermy wall mounts. Umm… we’re not in Kansas anymore. The girl behind the counter cheerfully told us the goat head on the wall was named Gary while she punched holes in foxtails to hang them from the wall.

I’ve also included some images from shop windows in Jerome, Arizona – another weird little mining town that is one of the most haunted places in America. I loved the Dia de los Muertos pieces and also found some vintage Halloween toys.

Have fun celebrating the most spooky day of the year, and Happy Halloween!
